types of pigeon breeds

there are almost millions of pigeon keeper around the world. Pigeon keeping is the art and science of breeding domestic pigeons. People have practiced pigeon keeping for about 10,000 years in almost every part of the world. In that time, mankind has substantially altered the morphology and the behavior of the domesticated descendants of the rock dove to suit his needs for food, aesthetic satisfaction and entertainment.
the various types of pigeon breeds are:-
The Rock Dove, which is generally believed to be the ancestor of domesticated pigeons,was probably domesticated around ten thousand years ago.there are hundreds of breeds of domesticated pigeons arising from this common ancestor which are currently cultivated by pigeon fanciers.because of the large number of domesticated breeds, pigeon fanciers find it convenient for certain purposes to group sets of domesticated pigeons into larger groups. there are major groups in which pigeons are divided:
1.sporting/flying pigeons
2.utility pigeons
3.fancy pigeons

FLYING PIGEONS:

The flying pigeons are also known as Tipplers. the tipplers are known for their long flights and high endurance. these birds can fly upto 22 hours continuously.These pigeons are used to fly on the competitions.Some of the flying breeds are-
Turkish tumblers
Birmingham Rollers
American rollers
Iranian High Flyers
Persian high flyers
Lahori
Saharanpuri
Madarasi.

UTILITY PIGEONS:

Utility pigeons are bred for their meat and as replacement breeding stock. The meat of pigeons is customarily referred to as

squab and is considered a delicacy in many parts of the world. Examples of utility varieties include

Kings,Runt, several different varieties of Mondaines and Carneau.

FANCY PIGEONS:
Fancy pigeons are aptly named for their unique coloring that creates a rather fancy and demure look about them. They appear almost regal in colouring and are sought after for their special unique coloring. The more unique the coloring, the more valuable the fancy pigeon becomes. While they are most often recognized by the more traditional black heads and white bodies, many new and non traditional colors have emerged through selective breeding practices.

The majority of fancy pigeon enthusiasts enter their birds in shows and competitions. However, more and more pigeon fanciers are starting to develop a “pet” line for these pigeons, in which case the birds are brought in to be nothing more than members of the family.some of fancy pigeon breeds are-
